I live in FL and would like to grow red onions, but I'm not sure if it's something that can be grown in a pot or in the ground. How long does it normally take til they mature, etc...
Can you help?
Thanks,
Cathy

Cathy,
Onions can be grown in a pot if it is at least 2 1/2 gallons in volume but keep in mind that any stresses due to lack of water or nutrients will result in less growth and smaller bulbs on the onions. Thus growing them in the soil is easier to do. Plant the small pencil sized transplants about now and they should be ready to harvest in late spring. Fertilize them regularly to keep them vigorous and growing fast. This helps insure good sized bulb production.
