I planted a Dogwood tree about 1 month ago. Dogwoods in the neighborhood are flowering but mine isn't. Will my Dogwood flower this year or does it have to be established for a season first? |
The ability for a tree to flower has as much to do with maturity as it does with the growing conditions. Your tree is probably going through a little transplant stress, which can slow or even stop its ability to flower this season. I don't think it's anything to worry about. Next spring it will be well established in its new home, and will probably be mature enough to flower. Watch for fat flower buds to develop next winter, an indication that it is old enough to flower. If you don't see any, give it one more year. By its third spring in the ground it should flower nicely for you. Enjoy! |
