|Is it possible to plant summer bulbs like Astible, Dahlia's, etc. in containers now (March) and then transplant to the garden after the last heavy frost? I just would like to get the plants started, as long as it won't hurt them.|
|As long as you put them in a spot that stays relatively cool, but not freezing, like an attached garage, they should be fine. Don't put them in direct sunlight either. If you plant the dahlias now, you will probably need to pinch them back a few times before the summer to have the best show of blooms.
Astilbe isn't a summer bulb, it is a shade-tolerant perennial. Are you referring to some other plant?
