Is there any remedies for killing this grass,it does not get hot enough until late summer. Can I fertilize, re-seed with cool weather seeds, to over shadow the bermuda grass. Will turf builder help at all. I just want my whole yard green at the same time.

Rose,

I apologize for this delayed reply to your gardening question. The spring rush has brought a deluge of questions and we are working hard to catch up!

You need to first get rid of the bermuda and then plant the type of grass you want. If not the bermuda will be a persistent weed in your new lawn.

Roundup is quite effective in killing bermudagrass, but will kill other green plant tissue it contacts. It ties up in the soil and breaks down quickly so you can replant within 10 days to 2 weeks. It is most effective on actively growing bermudagrass. On dormant or drought-stressed bermudagrass it is not very effective. Therefore, you will need to wait until grass resumes vigorous growth for it to be an effective control. Repeat applications are usually needed as there are always a few weeds that escape or seeds that germinate later.

Thanks for the question. Best wishes for a wonderful gardening season. Please stop in again soon!
