|Can you stick summer bulbs like Canna lilies, begonias, etc. in a pot and stick the pot in the ground to make it easier to remove them in the fall? What effects, if any, will this have on the blooms?
|You've discovered a great way to keep your plants happy in the garden, plus an easy way for you to find and dig them for storage in the fall! As long as the container is deep enough to allow for root growth, the plant and the blooms will be unaffected by this method of planting. Choose containers that are 10-12 inches deep, with several holes in the sides or bottom to allow for good drainage. You can bury the pots so the rim is below the soil level, to assure that they're well-watered during the season.
