The best fertilizer for your area has high nitrogen and low phosphorus and potassium. A product with a ratio of 3-1-2 or 4-1-2 is fine but one with an even higher percentage of nitrogen, the first number, is good too. Divide the first number into 100 and that is how many pounds to put on per 1,000 square feet.
