|So the weather has just now begun to be consistently warm. I have bought some flower seed (mostly wild flower mixtures) and want to plant them along my drive way. I have never done anything like this before. Is it ok to try and create the beds this week, then plant the seeds next week? How close should I plant to my drive way? How far apart should I place the seeds? I have: Annual Overseeding Wildflower mixture Gloriosa Daisy Daisy Mammoth Sunflowers and Old Fashions Mixture Wildflower I had planned on planting the smaller flowers along the driveway, and then the sunflowers at the top, spread fairly far apart. Any help and advice would be appreciated.|
|If you have wildflower mixes, all you need to do is broadcast the seeds onto the soil and water them in. With the single packages of smaller flowers you can plant individual seeds directly in the garden and the packages will tell you how far apart to space the seeds. Expect to thin these seedlings out as the plants begin to grow (not all seeds will germinate so you may have bare spots). If the plants start to look overcrowded you can move some of them to the bare spots.
Wildflowers are sometimes tall and rangy so keep them at least 12" from the driveway or buildings.
I'm sure you'll have a very colorful garden this summer. Enjoy!
