My Garden Zone - Knowledgebase Question

Lakeside, Ar

My profile defaulted to Southwestern Deserts, apparently based on my zipcode. However, I live in the High Mountain area, northeastern Arizona. If this is not corrected, I will not be provided information for my garden zone. How do I correct this? If it isn't corrected, there is no reason for me to be part of the garden club. I would like to purchase my gardening supplies from Home Depot so I would appreciate your correcting this. Thank you.

Although we provide answers to your gardening questions, we have no access to your garden club account with Home Depot, so I can only suggest you log in and change your zip code to one that matches your growing region. (There may be another way to go about this, but I think just changing the zip code will be the fastest.) Your Pinetop-Lakeside region is USDA zone 5a. At the high elevations, winters bring snow, subzero temperatures and frozen soils. The growing season for plants varies from 90 to 120 days. Precipitation averages 20 to 25 inches per year, sometimes more. The last killing frost in spring generally occurs in late May, but below-freezing temperatures have been recorded as late as mid-June.

Typical landscape plants include Crabapple (Malus species), Russian olive (Elaeagnus angustifolia), Spruce (Picea species), Firethorn (orange-berried Pyracantha species), Pfitzer juniper, Flowering quince (Chaenomeles species) and Lilac (Syringa species). Point of reference towns: Flagstaff, Window Rock, Greer.

Boulder Colorado shares your USDA gardening zone. The zip code for Boulder is 80306.

Best wishes with your garden!
