|Please advise what plant material would be best to block out the ugly view of my neighbors cars and trucks, which is across from my patio and terrace. I would like to create an kidney shape area (approx. 15ft long 8-10ft deep)near my pink dogwood tree where I have a victorian bench that I sit on almost daily to enjoy my garden. Plants should require little or no care, growth 5 or 6 feet high. The space is facing East and will also receive the hot afternoon West sun part of the afternoon.
Hopefully some of plants will be fast growers, since I'm 65years old and don't want to wait years to solve my problem area. I would like the backdrop to be evergreens with shrubs that have interesting color and texture. Plants that I have inclosed in a stone area which I should have entended along the rest of the property line are another pink dogwood tree, plum tree, roademdrums, black eye susannes, ass't lillies, green mop shrubs with yellow tips:Colors pink, white, yellow, purple . Looking forward to your ideas. Thank you very much for your time.
|I'd suggest planting variegated weigela, buddleia, or hydrangea for fast growth. You might also consider: Cotinus c. 'Golden Spirit' (Golden Spirit Smokebush) which grows 8'T x 6'W. It has unusal bright chartreuse - yellow foliage that lasts until Fall. In Fall it develops tones of amber, burgundy and scarlet foliage. Smokelike plumes of whitish-pink flowers appear in summer.
Syringa x 'Josee' (Josee Lilac) grows 4'-6' Tall by 4'-6' Wide and is considered a dwarf in the lilac world. It's a dense growing plant that blooms with great fragrance and repeats the bloom throughout the summer. Lavender, purple buds open to lavender pink blooms in mid to late May.
Or, you might plant Pink Meidiland, a flowering shrub with deep pink flowers. I think any of these suggestions will give you the look you want while blocking out the view of the neighbors.
Enjoy your garden!
