I live in Oklahoma and have heavy clay soil. I'm making berms, raised beds, water feature around my new sun deck and stone patio. I have limited financial resouces and physical resources. I have lots of old carpet and wood chips. I plan to use the old carpet to cover the paths to keep bermuda grass, crab grass and other weeds out and cover carpet with wood chips. The bones for my raised beds & water feature will be cinder blocks. What do you think of my plan?

Your plan sounds like a good one. I like the idea of recycling things; wood chips and old carpeting will be right at home in your garden. Both will suppress weeds and both will make for comfortable walking on the paths. I think your plan is an ambitious one but one that will provide many years of outdoor pleasure for you. Enjoy!
