|I see a lot of these small black flys in my flower pots, what kind of pest is this? Last year they 2 of my perennial plants never came back, and the pot was over whelmed with the pest. What is the best way to control them?|
|What you describe sound like fungus gnats. These tiny little pests feed and breed in moist organic matter. Since they fly, they're hard to control with chemical sprays but you can get rid of them by simply placing a barrier between the potting soil and the pests. A layer of gravel (aquarium gravel comes in lots of pretty colors) would be a great way to create a barrier. Or, you might try spraying the soil with a gnat control insecticide.|
Best wishes with your potted plants!
