Can I prune a Japanese Umbrella Pine? It's starting to lose its shape and getting straggly. |
Japanese Umbrella Pine, Sciadopitys verticillata, takes well to shearing to keep or get it into shape. Start by shearing off only a few inches so you can see how the tree will react. If regrowth is thick, you can shear it again in 4-6 weeks. Depending upon how out of shape and straggly it has become, you may only need to shear it every 2-3 years to keep it in shape. |
