Dipladenia, or mandevilla, that is grown in the shade have a more compact growing habit while those in full sun have a more leggy, vine-like appearance.

Dipladenia's need a moderate amount of water making sure their roots don't dry out in summer and should be fertilized prior to flowering (late spring) and again at the end of flowering (early winter).

It is hardy to about 30F; if your garden gets colder, plant yours in a pot and sink the pot into the soil to grow all summer. In the fall, dig up the pot, rinse it off and keep the plant indoors either as a houseplant, or allow it to go dormant and store the pot in a garage or basement that remains above freezing.

Best wishes with your dipladenia!
