Hi,

I have St.Augustine grass in my front yard and for some reason this year its spout something some sort seeded stems in from st.aug grass itself(Not sure what it call) all over and it looks horrible. I am not sure what it call but I don't think its any kind of weed. Could you tell me how to get rid of it?

Thanks

John,

I apologize for this delayed reply to your gardening question and hope it is still helpful to you.

Based on your description I can't say for sure what it is you are seeing in the grass. It may be seed heads because San Augustine can produce seed heads. These are usually just mowed and ignored and are not generally a long-term problem. However if you feel like this is not an accurate diagnosis I suggest you take some samples of these things to your County Extension Office for them to identify. With the sample in hand they should be able to tell for sure what you are seeing and suggest an appropriate course of action. Their contact information is:

3033 Bear Creek Drive
Houston, Texas 77084
Phone: 281-855-5600

Thanks for the question. Best wishes for a wonderful gardening season. Please stop in again soon!
