Hello,

This winter there was a very wet snow that damaged my tree hydrenga tardiva. There were several brances broken; I thought they were dead but they are growing leaves. The branch is split; should I cut it all the way off or is there a way for me to patch it back together. It is hanging down and does not look as attractive as a tree with balanced brances.

Thank you.

I'd remove the broken branches even though they are growing new leaves. Splintered branches are great places for insect and disease pathogens to enter so cutting the damaged branches off cleanly will allow the tree to callous over the wounds which will keep bugs and diseases from entering and compromising its health.

Best wishes with your landscape!
