Dahlias are perennials and will grow back year after year. Other low-maintenance perennials which come up every year include Ornamental grasses, Daylilies, Coneflowers (Echinacea), Salvia, Sedum, Coreopsis, Gayfeathers, Hardy Geranium, Butterfly Bush (buddleia ), Liatris (Blazing Star), Black-Eyed Susan, Gaillardia, Asiatic Lily, Russian Sage, Lupines, Aster, Mountain Bluet (Centaurea montana), Bluebells, Campanula, Lamb's Ears, Yucca, & Yarrow. "Knock Out" Roses will bloom all summer & are almost carefree.
