Can you give me some basic instructions on how to grown the Dorsett Golden Apple. Bought the tree last year, had a couple of apples this year but they only developed to the size of a golf ball at the largest, is this normal size? What about fertilizer? Thank you

Your Dorsett Golden is a great choice for warm winter areas. The tree won't really begin to produce until it has been in the ground 3 years. Although it is considered self-fruitful, you'll get a heavier crop if you have a second variety of apple in your yard. Anna is a terrific variety to grow with your Dorsett. Apples on both Dorsett and Anna are considered medium sized fruit (about 3-4" in diameter).

Your apple tree shouldn't require fertilizer unless the growth is slow or off-color. If it needs a boost, you can broadcast a low-nitrogen fertilizer such as a 4-6-8 over the soil under the tree and scratch it into the soil.

Best wishes with your apple tree!
