I have a small lot on a small lake and I am having a huge problem with muskrats eating ALL my plants. How can I keep them from eating my garden? I've called animal control and they won't do anything. I've called the local extension office andthey told me to call animal control. Do you have any suggestions?

Those brazen rodents! If it's not woodchucks or gophers, it's muskrats! I've never heard of this problem before, but I do have some suggestions. You can try coyote or fox scent (available from Burpee) as a repellent. I don't know which would be better, but the Virginia Department of Forests and Wildlife, maybe even the local game warden, should be able to tell you, and may have other suggestions as well. I know blood meal sprinkled on plants sometimes deters woodchucks. Dog hair obtained from a pet groomer and used as mulch may also give them second thoughts. I hope you soon find a solution!
