I just moved in to a house that had some rose bushes for at 20 years. Lately they are begining to look really bad. I gave them plant food for roses and such but they look horrible. I place a couple beetle bags so they would stop eating at them. Is there something else that I can do for them? How often are you supposed to water the bushes? I have been giving them a sprinle every couple days. Any help would be great. Thank you!! |
Roses need lots of sunshine and ample water. A sprinkling every couple of days won't keep them healthy. You'll want to soak the root area once a week to make sure they're getting enough water. Set a sprinkler under them and let it run for about 15 minutes. Do this once a week when the weather is mild, twice a week when it's hot. The Japanese beetles will stop feeding in a couple of weeks. At that time you can prune off the damaged parts of the plants and healthy new growth will be produced. Best wishes with your roses! |
