I have a new lawn in Maine that was planted the beginning of June. When is it safe to put a lawn fertilizer with weed control down?

There's no rush to fertilize - in fact, your new lawn will need another month or two of growing before becoming strong enough to handle fertilizer and weed control products. Wait until September when the weather is cooler. At that time you'll find just the right weed and feed products on sale in your local garden center. Be sure to apply in amounts as recommended on the package so you'll get the best results without accidentally burning your new lawn. In the meantime, mow and water on a regular basis and it should grow thick enough to crowd out most weeds.

Best wishes with your new lawn!
