What's the best way to plant Lavendar seeds, and protect Hibiscus plants when the chill is approaching? |
Lavendar thrives best in light and rather dry soils well supplied with lime. They do grow in almost any well drained loam, however. They doesn't like to have "wet feet" and will surely succumb to winter kill if placed in a wet spot. Lavendercan be grown from seed, but cuttings or division will work better. In our climate, they must be mulched for protection from freezing weather. Early in the spring the seedlings or rooted cuttings are set in the bed, 12-15 inches apart. They will need tobe frequently cultivated to keep weeds down. They are slow growers, so you won't see any flowers for a few years. If you have potted tropical hibiscus, you'll need to bring them indoors whenever a chill threatens. |
