Rhododendrons can fail to bloom if they are not getting the sun exposure they require (it differs from variety to variety so there's no absolute rule), if they are pruned back at the wrong time or if the flower buds are nipped by a late frost. Rhodies develop flower buds in the summer for the next spring's floral display. If you prune in late summer, fall, winter or spring, you'll be pruning off potential flower buds. Or, if there is a hard frost after the plants begin growing in the spring, the flower buds can be affected. Hope this information helps you determine just why your rhododendrons are not flowering!
