|I'm in zone 6, and have a birdfeeder habitat. I'd like to entice hummingbirds to my backyard. I am planning to plant attractive flowers in several window boxes which will hang from my deck. |
Can you suggest some types of flowers that will do well in full sun that also will be attractive to hummers?
|As you already understand, the key to attracting hummingbirds to your garden is to provide them with colorful flowers with a tubular or trumpet shape. Red is the best color, followed closely by orange.|
Here is a list of flowers that should fill your needs. There are others as well, but here's a start. Fuchsia might be your best bet. Also nicotiana, salvia, coral bells, lilies, petunia, nasturtium. A wonderful vine which is very attractive to hummers is trumpet vine.
Don't forgetto hang a few feeders close to your windows so you can enjoy them from inside.
