|Unlike many other vegetables, the seeds from cucumbers and squash are not usually saved from a home garden. This is because members of these plant families cross pollinate with other varieties and the seeds that are produced will not grow into the plant you expect. However if you're interested in seeing what the seeds might produce, go ahead and collect them. The fruit must be very ripe for seeds to germinate correctly. Cucumbers must be entirely yellow, so leave it on the vine until it is yellow all over. Then separate the seeds from the fruit flesh and dry them at room temperature. Keep seeds in a labeled container or envelope in a cool, dry place where they are protected from insects. Plant next spring and see what they produce.
