Too much water can stress a tree, but the curling leaves might indicate insect pests such as aphids, scales or mites. Closely inspect the leaves for pests, or take a few of the affected leaves to your local nursery or cooperative extension office for positive diagnosis. Be sure to put the leaves into a sealable plastic bag. You wouldn't want to share any hitchhiking pests! Once you've determine the cause of the curling leaves you can take appropriate control measures.

Best wishes with your crape myrtle!
