Scale can be controlled with various products, but results can vary depending on the plant and species of scale. Horticultural or summer oil (not dormant oil) is effective if you can get thorough coverage with the spray. Oil kills by smothering the scale insects so it only kills where the spray covers the plant. There are also some systemic insecticides that can be effective against certain scales. Speak to someone at your local Home Depot garden center about what products they sell that are labeled for scale control on the specific ornamental plants you are growing. Some examples include products with ingredients such as imidocloprid, acephate, and disulfoton. Thanks for the question. Please stop in again soon!
