I would like to plant a fig and lemon tree, when do I plant them do I need to plant more than 1 to cross pollinate? Or will one each be OK? My zone is considered semi tropical, our home is between Ocala, Florida and the Gulf Coast of Florida. Also when and how often do you fertilize and water? |
Both figs and citrus trees are self-fruitful so you'll only need one of each. With citrus, they seem to set more fruit if a second citrus is nearby so you might consider a second one if your neighbors do not have citrus trees. Plant during the coolest months of the year and water deeply once or twice each week. Figs won't need feeding but citrus should be fed every 3-4 months. Choose a fertilizer especially formulated for citrus and apply in amounts and with the frequency listed on the package. Best wishes with your fruit trees! |
