| Two years now I have planted rhubarb - 1st year from roots and all 3 died. This year from an established plant and it died. I was told it needed lots of water and I did that but it still died. |
| Rhubarb prefers to grow in the cool weather and hot summer sunshine can make the plant wilt down to nothing. Try planting your rhubarb in a garden area that gets morning sun but is shaded from hot afternoon sunshine. Amend the soil with organic matter prior to planting, and water deeply once or twice a week during the growing season. Since rhubarb is a perennial, it is possible that the leaves died back during the summer heat but the roots are still okay. If this is the case, you'll see new leaves appear in the spring. If not, try buying another rhubarb plant and putting it in a place in your garden that will be shaded from the afternoon sunshine. Best wishes with your rhubarb! |
