Silver Dollar Tree - Knowledgebase Question

My silver dollar tree is about 6 or 7 ft tall but has only one main stalk (trunk) that leans over unless I stake it. Should I trim it down about a foot or more to a pair of branches to get it to grow fuller? When is the best time to trim it back?
Thank you.

Sharon,
I would stake it for now. Cut the top back by about a third in late winter. When you stake it do so "loosely" to allow movement with stakes in three directions like one of the tall radio towers you see about the countryside.
