I just got a butterfly bush this summer. It is about 6 feet tall. When is the best time to prune it? Do you cut it down to the soil or just so many inches.
Thank you.

Butterfly bushes are generally pruned in the spring. First remove any winter killed branches and then prune down to whatever height you want. I usually prune mine down to from 6-12" above the soil level. This results in lots of new growth and lots of flowers.
