Hello,
I am in desperate need of advice for a reasonable method to control whatever is digging my entire yard. I did not see the culprit so I am not sure what I am dealing with. I found a few entrance tunnels (when I almost broke a hip stepping in them) I'd say maybe 10

Sounds like you are at your wit's end with those destructive critters! Although there are lots of reported remedies for getting rid of gophers and moles, including plants and homemade concoctions, nothing really works except trapping the creatures. Gophers and moles feed on grubs and other insects in the soil. As long as you have healthy soil teaming with beneficial insects and their larvae, you'll have the potential for attracting gophers and moles. To get rid of gophers, invest in a scissors-type gopher trap, and set it carefully - as often as necessary to catch and kill the entire population. Once you've gotten rid of them, encourage your neighbors to do the same. If it's any consolation, gophers and moles in your yard are a compliment to your skills as a gardener. They prefer rich, moist, organic soil teeming with insects!

You might also contact your local cooperative extension office (look in the phone book under County offices). Helpful folks there might have even more ideas for eradicating the pests.
