|how far away from a septic tank should i plant a hazelnut and how do i start one from seed?|
|Hazelnut seeds need two treatments before they will sprout. You can either plant them outdoors now in the fall so they will get plenty of moisture and a period of cold weather, or you can plant them indoors after providing the pre-germination treatments they need. If you decide to start the seeds indoors, soak in water for 24 hours and then put them in a plastic bag and set them in your refrigerator for 180 days. After these treatments you can sow seeds 1-2 inch deep in moist potting soil. I think just planting them outdoors now is the easiest way to start your hazelnut seeds!
I would plant the tree at least 50' away from your septic system. Hazelnut trees can get huge and the root system will be huge, as well.
