We would like to plant a privacy hedge (5-6ft tall) close to our septic system, 10-15 ft. What would you recommend? Please keep in mind the root system concern when we have so close to the septic tank. Thank you, Lilly Van Slyke

Septic systems are generally closed systems and roots from plants 10-15 feet away should not bother the sealed tank and leach lines. We've already recommended several shrubs to use as privacy hedges: Thuja 'Pyramidalis' is a narrow, upright hedge, arborvitae, holly, pieris or even skypencil junipers are all good choices for privacy hedges in your growing region.
