I have brown spots throughout my lawn at the present time. Can I do anything to rid of them before next year?

Brown spots in your lawn can be caused by dog urine, drought, fertilizer burn, disease, or can simply be caused by cool season grasses dying out in the summertime (or warm season grasses dying out in the cooler fall and winter weather). At this point, I'd simply rake out the brown areas and reseed. If the lawn shows brown spots again next year, you'll want to investigate a little more thoroughly, perhaps taking a sample of the affected lawn to your local cooperative extension office for complete diagnosis.

Best wishes with your lawn!
