Pepper plants are annuals and they will die at the end of the season, no matter what you do. You can save the seeds from one of the peppers, though, and plant them next spring. Tomato plants can be perennial plants under the right growing conditions. If you can keep the temperatures above 50F and provide sunshine, the tomato plant will survive.

Best wishes with your tomato plant!
