I have some dwarf Zebra Grass in the front yard that have gotten way bigger that I had anticipated - can you divide the grass and replant the halves elsewhere? |
Miscanthus sinensis 'Strictus', or zebra grass, can be easily divided and replanted. This is typically done in the spring but if you live in a mild winter gardening region, you can do it in the fall. If your winter weather is severe (zones 1-4) I'd wait until spring to dig and divide. Otherwise, you can do it now. You may find the roots have become woody. If so, use a shovel, an axe or a saw to cut through the mass. (I've actually used an axe to divide mine!) Best wishes with the move! |
