|I have some Iris Bulbs that I have had in a brown paper bag for about 8 months and I was wondering if I could plant these or would they be to dried out? Also I live in the Sacramento, VCa area , do I need to cut my roses back for the winter season and when is a good time to plant new roses in this area?
|If the iris have been out of the ground all summer long they are not likely to grow and bloom for you. I'd toss them and start all over with new rhizomes next spring. Roses can be planted bareroot in January or February when you find them in the nurseries or from spring through fall if you purchase them in containers. March is the best time to prune roses back in your gardening region. Wait until new growth just begins to show then prune the entire shrub back to about knee level. The new growth that emerges will produce flowers. Enjoy your garden!|
