In your cold winter climate, spring is the best time to plant a new tree. This will give it several months of growing weather in which to establish its root system. Paper birch trees are available as single stemmed trees, but also as clumps having 3-5 stems. Look for a clump if you want more than one trunk.

Best wishes with your new tree!
