| I live in the middle south. We have three months of each season. I seem to be having a little problem with my Japanese maples. They have developed small brown spots on the leaves. I've noticed this for about two weeks but have hesitated to do anything about it. The temperature in this area now is in the mid 40's at nite and day tem. is mid 60's. Can you please help? |
| Leaf spots are caused by fungi or bacteria. Brown or black spots and patches may be either ragged or circular, with a water soaked or yellow-edged appearance. Insects, rain, dirty garden tools, or even people can help it spread. To control, remove infected leaves when the plant is dry. Leaves that collect around the base of the plant should be raked up and disposed of. Although you can't stop the rainfall, you can void overhead irrigation if possible; water should be directed at soil level. Since it is late in the season, all of the affected leaves should fall from the plant so no other control measure is needed. Be sure to rake and remove all the fallen leaves. Your maple should develop healthy leaves next spring. Good luck with your garden! |
