|I purchased a 3 ball Eugenia Topiary from home depot the begining of October. I planted it the same day purchased , I am not sure if I can prune it , some of the balls are mishaped . Also I dont know if it was a good idea to plant it due to the cold weather coming . Is this a good plant for New York?|
should I take the plant up and pot it so I can bring it in for the winter? Is there certain food I should be feeding it?
|Eugenia myrtifolia is not winter hardy in New York so leaving it in the ground isn't a good idea. I'd plant it in a container and move it to a protected place (porch, deck, etc.) or into an unheated basement for the winter months. Wait until spring to prune and shape your topiary, and feed in the spring. If you take your Eugenia indoors over the winter, water sparingly to encourage healthy roots.|
Best wishes with your new plant!
