When should we (in Zone 5, Massachusetts) apply Lebanon Brand Grub Control, containing Dylox insecticide to get the grubs in our lawn? The directions say mid-May to June or when our "lawn program calls for it." It's this latter vagueness thattroubles us. We have a very bad spot right in back of the house. Should we put some stuff down now and then re-apply. Or just wait until mid-May. As you know, we have had a few days of extremely warm weather here (low to mid-90s), but things are back to normal now, so it's chilly again. Look forward to hearing from you.

You need to wait until the grubs are in the upper levels of the soil, before you apply any grub control insecticide. That's why the recommendation is to wait until mid-May before applying it. Be patient, spreading it now won't control many of thegrubs. If you're not satisfied with the product you bought, try beneficial nematodes. These microscopic "worms" parasitize the grubs and kill them. Plus it's less harmful to the environment and all those using your lawn than the Dylox. Beneficial nematodes are available through, Gardener's Supply Company, Burlington, VT www.gardeners.com
