We have just built three raised beds. The first two have soil and mulch. But in the third grass is already growing back in - despite the landscape fabric. We are going to go back and pull out as many weeds as possible. How many weeds do we really need to get out? |
Pulling the weeds out by the roots will keep the area mostly weed free, especially if you put down weed barrier. If you do not intend to plant in the bed for a few months, you can use a Roundup weed killer on the bed, then place weed barrier such as Weedblock Landscape Fabric, available at The Home Depot, over the top of the bed. This should take care of the weeds and keep new ones from sprouting. If you would rather not use chemicals, you can solarize the soil by putting thick black plastic over the area. This will essentially bake the weeds and weed seeds and should take care of the problem. |
