how do I get the ground even on my lawn? I have a large area and you can feel it underfoot and not easy to run and play. Someone told me to fill in with sand.

You can use either topsoil or sand to fill in uneven spots. If the spots are shallow, just spread the sand or topsoil over the top to even things out. The grass will grow right up through the sand or topsoil. If you have deep areas, spread the sand or topsoil only about an inch deep, allow the grass to grow through, then spread a second layer of topsoil or sand, repeating as often as necessary to make the area even. Don't put too much on at one time or the grass will not be able to grow through it. Best wishes with your lawn.
