|Do peonies require special attention?|
|For growing them in Texas, you'll need to find ways to keep them cool. For starters try choosing varieties adapted for the South such as 'Festiva Maxima' (ask local garden|
centers for other varieties to grow). Plant in an area with afternoon shade, keep them well watered and mulched. Planting in fall is usually better than spring since the weather gets so hot quickly this time of year. The pH should be between 6 and 7, the soil well drained, fertile, amended with compost and a handful of rock phosphate. With any luck they'll grow fine.
