Your Phormium Amazing Red will form a clump less than two feet high and wide. You can keep it in a container but I'd suggest a two to five gallon pot rather than a one gallon pot. The extra space will give the roots ample room to grow without overcrowding. Amazing Red will remain relatively small compared to other phormiums so it shouldn't overtake a garden, even when planted in the ground.
