Crape myrtles develop flowers on new growth so if you prune back now, your tree should still bloom this spring. After it has bloomed you can prune it back again and you should get a second flush of growth and flowers later in the summer. I'd prune it back by a couple of feet now and then prune it back a couple of feet more later this summer. By this fall it should be just the right size. If it is still too large, prune again next spring. Enjoy your tree!
