why did my blue spruce turn pink?

There's a waxy coating on the needles of a spruce which makes it look blue. If you used an oil based spray on the tree it can dissolve the waxy coating and make the needles look off color. The only other possibility is that the needles suffered winter damage and they are dead or dying. Hope this helps determine the cause!
