Last summer I planted a young oak tree and the top of it died and broke off but the rest of the tree is fine. It's only about 3 1/2 ft. tall. Will this plant be healthy or do I need to replace it this spring?

Your oak tree will continue to grow and will probably turn the highest branch into a new central leader. The only drawback is that it will have a permanent crook in the trunk. If that's okay with you, just allow the tree to recover on its own. If you want an oak with a straight trunk, you might want to replace it this spring.

Best wishes with your oak tree!
