I purchased a small Japanese Maple (2 ft tall) it is now 2 years old. It has grown several branches off the main trunk with very different leaves. They are green instead of red and their shape if different from the rest of the tree. A thicker leaf. Should I cut these offshoots or will they turn into the leaves of the rest of the tree? |
You can prune off the branches with the odd leaves. Japanese maples are grafted onto a more vigorous rootstock. I suspect those branches are coming from below the graft. They should be removed before they overtake the entire tree. |
