Hi, our grass is not in good shape. If we start fresh now, will we have a grass by early spring. What can we do?

You can begin now to prepare for sowing grass seeds by first raking out any dead grass and thatch (the build up of dead roots and stolons). Once you have raked out all the debris you can overseed the entire lawn and then lightly cover the seeds with peat moss. This will cover the seeds so the birds won't have a feast and will also help keep the seeds moist so they can germinate. Wait until March or April to so your seeds. The new grass should be up in about 10 days and you can start mowing in 2-3 weeks. Be sure to keep the lawn well watered while the seeds are germinating. Best wishes with your lawn renovation!
